QUICK LINKS

Welcome!

Hello and thank you for visiting my ePortfolio.  A Graduate student at the University of Maryland University College, I am pursuing a Masters of Distance Education:  Management & Policy.  In addition to my current academic pursuits, I have a Social Science, B.S., Management A.A.S., and certifications in Human Resources, Supervision, and Diversity Management/Training.

I have over 30 years of experience in the fields of healthcare, legal and early education.  At present, I am the Senior Program Associate/Information Specialist for the National Center on Early Head Start Child Care Partnerships at ZERO TO THREE (ZTT).

Before joining ZTT, I owned/operated a Licensed Family Childcare and served as President/State Director for the Charles County Family Daycare Association.  It was during this time that I came to appreciate the enormous amount of influence early educators have on children.  It was that experience and my committment to children and diversity, that contributed to my decision to pursue Distance Education as a means to ensure the development and implementation of innovative DE Programming forthose who are often disenfranchised (e.g., minorities and non-native language learners).

THINKING ABOUT PURSUING DE? TAKE THE TEST!

Considering pursuing Distance Education?  Complete the "Distance Education Aptitude and Readiness Scale (DEARS)" Test

DEARS is a non-scientific instrument developed by Dr. Bob Kiziik, to provide general guidance to anyone considering online coursework or pursuing a degree in distance education.

I scored "64," which indicates that I have a pronounced sense of autonomy and self-direction and should experience little to no difficulty with distance education.

The truth of the matter, however, is that distance education is quite complicated.  At least from the perspective that I'm now approaching it and it's always changing!  To be an effective administrator in this field, is going to require grasping the various approaches, advantages, disadvantages, needs, costs, and effectiveness given the population(s) being served.

There's so much to learn!
